The Columbia Basin Water Smart Initiative (Water Smart) will address water conservation in the Basin and provide support to Regional Districts and Municipalities. As a regional approach to provide capacity and support to local governments in achieving community specific water conservation targets that contribute to a 20 percent Basin wide reduction in community water consumption by 2015. Water Smart will work with 19 local governments. Columbia Basin Trust is committed to increasing residents' opportunity for involvement and influence in water management and improving the overall understanding and awareness of water related issues. CBT will commit $149 799 towards stage 1 (first 10 communiites) for the coordination of local governments' projects implementation of the project goals and objectives and be responsible for the administration and completion of the workplan.
