Sparwood is a very heavily resource dependent community that also suffers from extensive leakage to Alberta retailers who are less than an hour away. The community is also losing its only large retailer (Overwaitea) due to close in January. The community hopes to identify a 'factory outlet' that could act as an anchor for a healthy retail sector in the community.
