The City Hall building in Kaslo is a village landmark built in 1898. It is a National Historic Site and is known as the oldest municipal hall on the B.C. mainland that has operated as a city hall since its construction. The second floor was originally built as Kaslo's courthouse and retains its original features such as 40 foot high arched ceilings ornate woodwork trim hardwood floors and tall windows overlooking the community and Kootenay Lake. This project will be conducted in two phases. The first one will be the installation of a fire suppression and sprinkler system and the second phase will include the restoration of the original woodwork and ceiling in the original courtroom. This space will be used as a public meeting space and residents will be able to enjoy it during weddings reunions cultural events and small conferences. CBT has provided $100 000 for phase one and up to $100 000 for phase two. CBT believes in the importance of the cultural heritage of Basin communities and is proud to support this conservation project.
