The Columbia Basin Water Smart Initiative (Water Smart) will address water conservation in the Basin and provide support to Regional Districts and Municipalities. As a regional approach to provide capacity and support to local governments in achieving community specific water conservation targets that contribute to a 20 percent Basin wide reduction in community water consumption by 2015 Water Smart will work with 19 local governments. Each participating local government will receive up to $10 000 in a 1/3 (local government) : 2/3 (CBT) match funding contribution to implement their Water Smart Action Plan.
