The Sturgeon Gathering is building on the past Sturgeon Pow Wows which have been held in both 2008 and 2009 in Castlegar. It is an event to enhance and promote community awareness and educate individuals on the importance of White Sturgeon to the Columbia Basin ecosystem and First Nations culture. The event will be held in Revelstoke on Friday April 23rd 2010 at the Centennial Ball Park and adjacent Boat Ramp. The Gathering will involve political and spiritual leaders youth elders and community members of the Ktunaxa Okanagan and Shuswap Nations. The gathering will include: spiritual ceremonies; hand drumming; presentations and speeches from leaders and elders; informational kiosks and displays; and arts and crafts all surrounding the importance and recovery of White Sturgeon. CBT is committed to working with Basin residents to increase their understanding and build collective wisdom around water and watershed issues in the Basin. CBT has committed $2000 to the 2010 Xu7t Splukw (Sturgeon Gathering).
